Joe Lauzon Says ‘We’re going to eat ourselves until we hate ourselves’

UFC fighter Joe Lauzon and five of his friends will be going to a pizza-eating charity event this coming Friday. The UFC lightweight said that he is aiming to finish 30 cheese pizza slices for the said charity.

“We think we can eat five pizzas each. We’re going to eat ourselves until we hate ourselves,” he said during a recent interview in MMAjunkie Radio.

Each pizza consumed will be equivalent to $5 donated to the Jimmy Fund. The proceeds of this fundraising event will be going to cancer care and research that aims to further improve the chances of survival for those patients who have cancer.

This is not the first time that Lauzon joined this charity event for cancer. Lauzon actually joined this kind of event 2 years ago after his son was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Joey Lauzon III, Lauzon’s son, was diagnosed shortly after birth, but was able to fully recover after receiving treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital.

lauzonLauzon went to the charity event for the second time held at the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Cancer. This week, he was able to raise almost $3000.

Baking Steel test kitchen, located in Cohasett, Massachusetts, was the one in charge of putting up the money for this particular event.

The pizzas served were only cheese though.

“We’re going for quantity. This is not supposed to be a fun trip,” Lauzon said. Joe admitted that he didn’t have to drive too far going to Cohasset because he lives in East Bridgewater.

There are several ways on how to make a pledge on the pizza challenge. Fans who would like to make a contribution per slice can check out the website which partnered with Lauzon for the event; fans can visit www.mixedmartialarts.com. For those who would like to donate for Lauzon’s walk, they can visit donate.joelauzon.com.

Lauzon, who has a record of 25-10 MMA and 12-7 UFC, will be fighting again in the octagon this coming December 11th. He will be going up against Evan Dunham, who has a record of 166 MMA and 9-6 UFC. Both fighters will meet at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, which will be held at Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. The fight will be aired as the main card for the event and fans can watch it on FOX Sports 1.

He will be making a few pounds more before the fight though.

“I think everyone has been affected by cancer unfortunately, one way or the other. You see a little kid with it, and I feel like it’s even worse. Whatever people can do to help would be awesome,” he said.
