Daniel Cormier The UFC light heavyweight champion says the UFC 197 Jon Jones would have lost to him if he had been put in Ovine Saint Preux’s place that night, here’s what he had to say on the UFC 197 Post-Fight-Show. “He got the job done,” Cormier said. “A lot of times, most guys, they don’t have their best performance, they lose. They don’t get it done. So, it shows how special Jon is. That being said, very disappointed that I didn’t get to compete tonight, because I do believe that if he showed up in the form that he did tonight or if this is the new Jon Jones, there’s no way that guy can beat me.” Both fighters: Jones and St. Preux put on what most agree were, “fair performances,” with Jones going on to get the victory by unanimous decision, winning the interim light heavyweight championship. Getting a 10-8 on one of the judges scorecards. On paper that sounds like quite an impressive showing, but it was far from Jones’ best. “I think he fought the best he could tonight,” Cormier said. “He was gone for a long time, had a lot of issues outside the Octagon and Ovince Saint Preux did a good job. You cannot take it away from Ovince. He fought hard. He showed him things he hadn’t seen before. And Jon said it himself; he did not fight well tonight. So hat’s off to Ovince. He did a great job and Jon, he didn’t hold back. That was as good as he could do.” In a recent interview Jones he said it felt great flipping DC off… In a later interview he talked more on the subject, saying “I gave Daniel the finger leaving the Octagon. It felt great to do it,” Jones said the post-fight press conference. “It creates buzz. It gets people ready for the fight. Me and DC don’t like each other. He’s been in my sights the whole. time. We had a minor bump in the road and we had to take a little detour. It was more for fun, to get a reaction from the fans and restart this storyline with me and DC.”
The possibility of a Jones VS Cormier rematch is still there, possibly for UFC 200, although nothing has been confirmed, stay tuned…
