Jon Jones Doesn’t Want To Fight “Unknown” Stipe Miocic

Well… By now you’ve all probably seen this little nugget…

Recently, Jon Jones was given the chance to vocalize a bit more on the possible Brock Lesnar fight, as well as what would happen if Lesnar turned Jones’ offer down.

“I feel like if I was going to take a fight at heavyweight it would be against a person who me and my coaches feel would be a perfect matchup for me,” Jones said during the post-fight press conference.

“Right now, Stipe is looking extremely impressive. And I believe if you get an extremely talented big guy versus an extremely talented little guy, I mean, a lot of the cards are in his favor. At the same time, I fear no man. I strike for a reason when I strike,” he added.

Because the Lesnar VS. ‘Bones’ fight has a high likelihood of not happening, he was asked what he thought about his other options, in this case his other option being a fight with Stipe Miocic, the Heavyweight champ. While it would be a fairly interesting bout, Jones definitely seemed fairly nonplussed by the whole idea and not all that excited.

“I feel like Stipe is relatively unknown to the general public. It wouldn’t even be a real superfight in my opinion. I think a lot of MMA fans would be super excited about, but the general public wouldn’t care about that fight,” explained “Bones.”

“Most people don’t really know who is, with all due respect to him. So, if I’m going to sacrifice being the smaller guy, I think stylistically Brock would be a fight that makes way more sense, and the payday would be tremendous. What it would do for our sport would be tremendous. Much bigger impact. So, for many reasons, a Brock Lesnar fight just makes much more sense to me,” he concluded.

And as for the anticipated ‘Cyborg’ VS. Holm fight, here’s what Dana had to say during the post-fight press-conference.

“I was just talking to Holly Holm back there. ‘What do you think?’ It seems like she’s interested. I like Holly vs. Cyborg. I think it’s a good fight. I think Cyborg looked good. She was very composed. She didn’t go crazy. She took her time, picked her shots, and I think she looked good.”
